Second International Open Encounter on Video, Espace Cardin / CAYC

Jorge Glusberg is an Argentinian industrialist who finances video all over the world and is passionate about this new medium and art. In 1974, he brought Fred Forest to the CAYC in Buenos Aires after his success at the XII Bienal de São Paulo. He organised an exhibition for him in Buenos Aires at the CAYC (Auto-perception électronique) and entrusted him with the contacts and organisation of a HIGH-LEVEL INTERNATIONAL VIDEO MEETING in Paris. Fred Forest's personal contacts ensured that the project went ahead without a hitch at the Espace Pierre Cardin. Jorge Glusberg organised the content and participants in the project, as well as communications, from Buenos Aires. A close bond was created between the two men, Forest having finally found in him an ideal individual who responded to all his requests for funding to produce the necessary information. This relationship continued through the Collectif d'art sociologique, to which he gave total freedom without ever censoring its initiatives. In particular, he supported the Collectif d'art sociologique in Barcelona, Warsaw, Kassel, etc. And he organised its video meetings in Caracas, New York, London, Buenos Aires and Paris, always inviting them.

LONG BIOGRAPHY OF FRED FOREST

Fred Forest has a special place in contemporary art. Both by his personality and by his pioneering practices which mark his work. He is mainly known today for having used one by one most of the communication media that have appeared over the last fifty years. He is co-founder of three artistic movements: those of sociological art, the aesthetics of communication and ethics in art.

He represented France at the 12th São Paulo Biennale (Communication Prize) in 1973, at the 37th Venice Biennale in 1976 and at Documenta 6 in Kassel in 1977.
