JULIA MARGARET CAMERON 2

When filming people, Fred Forest always asked them the same question:

  • Do you know where Julia Margaret Cameron is?
  • Do you know where Julia Margaret Cameron lives?

Then, without waiting for an answer, he would let a female voice come out of a tape recorder.
This man has been after me for three years.
For three years! Please don't give him my address". This contradictory message naturally caused a certain amount of confusion. Generating heated discussions around the unknown woman. But also some excellent advice. Meanwhile, more and more people joined this rather strange meeting.

The climate of communication that Fred Forest had artificially created around a person with no identity and who was also absent, worked remarkably well. Suggestions from passers-by ranged from the simple suggestion of calling the police, to the recommendation of asking INTERPOL to help find the missing person...
All those questioned received an invitation a few days later to the Gallery to see Julia Margaret Cameron's exhibition and find out if she had been found...
Despite the cold, the visit to the Die Brücke gallery for the opening of Julia Margaret Cameron's exhibition was a success a few days later. In fact, the cold didn't stop the visit from being very pleasant.  Indeed, Cameron's name - hitherto little known - was mentioned in Vienna - and was now in everyone's memory.
The evening of the opening was itself an exciting event.
The artist's melancholy paintings and portraits hung on the walls were much appreciated, and matched the general good humour of the evening.
