WAPLER VIDEO DROUOT SALE JANUARY 19 FIRST HISTORICAL SALE OF VIDEO IN DROUOT UNDER THE HAMMER OF MASTER WAPLER

Sale Wapler Drouot First historic sale of videos in Drouot under the hammer of Maître Wapler It would have been surprising if Fred Forest was absent, he who used the auction rooms more than once not to carry out a commercial act for his benefit but quite simply as a privileged place to create an orderly event. artistic and sociological. For him, a video pioneer, the opportunity was unique to participate… With his usual sense of provocation Forest offers two works, the first “The Broken Vase” priced at 1 franc, the second “Gestes du coiffure” in a single copy dated 1972 priced at 60,000 euros. The first will easily find a buyer, while the second will simply leave amateurs perplexed without bidding of course. The artist who to this day refuses to sell his works has participated in numerous public sales exclusively to create the event, the art framework of the art market being for him only a pretext to denounce its speculative operations.

  • Video portrait of a collector in 1974 at the Espace Cardin under the hammer of Maître Jean-Claude Binoche (the portrait in question being created on site in real time from a blank tape accompanied by a contract where the collector Rodolphe Stadler undertakes to carry out a certain number of meals under the direction of the artist)
  • 1977 Sale of the Non-artistic M2 at Espace Cardin under the hammer of Maître Jean-Claude Binoche
  • Network plot the first work in the world in 1996 which foreshadowed the craze for NFTs 25 years in advance and inaugurated the virtual market with the sale of a code at the Hôtel Drouot under the hammer of Maître Jean-Claude Binoche
  • Color network public sale in Drouot Montaigne under the Hammer of Pierre Cornette de Saint Cyr in 2000 dedicated entirely to color
